Someday I hope that Henry will read this Blog and enjoy my running commentary on his life and the little anecdotes that I've added (some humorous, some not so much). I don't think this would be a legitimate picture of our lives if I didn't add a dose of reality every now and then. News flash-not everything in life is perfect. Sometimes we just have , "one of those weeks..."
So we started off the week by learning that our former neighbor and current realtor (we are hoping to rent/sell the house soon) went missing. Yesterday we learned that he in fact died. A bit too depressing for this blog? Perhaps. But I hope that those of you that read this will offer a prayer to his family. He was just at the house last week to give us some listings and he was playing with Henry and talking about his own daughter, who is the same age as Henry. So tragic.
Monday, I met with my sister and brother for John's birthday and was rear-ended as I was waiting to turn onto our street. I'm fine, Henry was not with me, thank goodness. My car? Well, let's just say, "ouch". The good thing that came from this is that I realized that when I put Henry in his car seat, I fasten the straps, but I do not always pull them tight. I do now. I hope that when parents read this, they will reassess how snug those straps are.
Next? Okay, there's more. Yesterday was Henry's long-awaited appointment with the allergist. We learned that our little guy is officially allergic to ...wait for it...DOGS! Such a blow. Part of the reason we will be moving soon is to get a yard for the dog that we were going to buy this summer. A boy needs a dog! Those of you that know me know that I am a DOG PERSON. Henry's first word was "woof!" (seriously). This is really such sad news. Billy and I even had a dog breed picked out that just so happened to be a "low-allergen" breed. When I asked about a low allergen dog, the allergist said that for a kid this allergic there is really no low allergen breed. They also tested for 13 other things. Everything else was clear with the exception of...EGGS! Great. No eggs or egg by-products or anything that contains eggs or egg by-products. Bye-bye to daddy's famous blueberry pancakes. The good news is that we now know why our little guy's skin is so red and scratchy and we can do something about it.
Even as I write this I feel a little selfish for being upset about this recent news. Not a big deal when you look at the big picture and all the other hurdles that many parents jump every day. This? Small potatoes.
The good news? There's lots!
Henry can wash his hands with his big boy step! Do not even try to put him in his high chair without letting him was his hands (something daddy taught him).
He can get things out of the cupboard. Not something we necessarily like him doing, but, nonetheless...Oh, also notice-kitchen coming along!!
AND, he can write his name!!! Okay, just kidding. I wrote his name, but he did the rest. Loves to color! I think I'm going to frame this. I think it would look great on Nonnie's fridge!
