Still in Love After One Year!

Amazing the changes this child has made. I was with a friend today who has a tiny little four-month-old. As I was holding this little lump I could not believe that Henry was ever that small, AND, more importantly that I have had something to do with what he is today. Wow. Boggles the mind. Mine anyway.

So I was checking out last year's Mother's Day post and just had to chuckle at all the adorable things my child did. He still does many adorable things-he's just replaced the ones he used to do.

His infectious laugh is more a belly laugh and now takes on many different characteristics: Silly laugh when I tickle him, breathless laugh/howl when daddy wrestles him, mischievous grin/he-he as he holds a crayon to the wall or his mouth and looks right at me. A proud "HA-HA!" when he figures out a word or phrase to communicate-and it works! Latest one: "all done" or "perrperr and colllrrr" if he wants me to get his paper and crayons for him.

Ahhh, the sweet smile as he drifted off to sleep. I so loved that. Now, not so much. Henry has become a good sleeper except when he's cutting a tooth (like now!), however no more going softly into the night. He has about a 5 minute episode of berserk-ness (is that a word?), then...CRASH!

Oh the sweet massages I would give my little cuddle bug and his tender little "ahhhhh". Now? Let me just say that if you want to see this kid go ape sh**, put him on his back. So much for creating a high maintenance husband for some unsuspecting bride! Massages? Nope-he's like his daddy:take 'em or leave 'em.

Getting dressed for work. Yeah, gone are the days when I would put Henry in the bassinet and watch him gleefully kick his tootsies as I leisurely got dressed. Well now I am actually getting dressed to go into public instead of putting on a (possibly) clean pair of sweats. Thankfully Billy helps out because on the not-so-rare occasions when we are running late and we have to all get dressed at once...Well let me just say that we have set up a mini Romper Room in our bedroom to entertain Henry while we get dressed. This usually works to entertain him for the first 5 minutes then it's on to the trash can to chew on the plastic dry cleaning bag.

So last night (and then I 'll get on the Mother's Day), Henry decided to wake up at around 10ish screaming. I mean screaming! He did the same thing the night before then fell back asleep very quickly so we thought it must have been a nightmare. So, long story short, he screamed for about two hours. No comforting this baby. He would go from me to Billy then back again. When it finally dawned on us that it was a new tooth coming through (duh) we gave him some Tylenol so I think he pretty much stopped screaming about an hour after that. I'm not sure how but I woke up in the morning with him wriggling next to me. I watched him roll around then eventually groggily sit up like some fuzzy-headed baby bird. He looked me straight in the eye and said, "hi". Heart melts. Now can you imagine if your spouse decided to scream at you for half the night then in the morning just said, "hi"? Heart does not melt.

Okay, the day...

Henry read me a story. So funny how this kid chooses books to sit down with over his toys (love it-thank you Nonnie and BOTMC!)

However, if given the choice..."puppy, puppy, puppy..."

Arrived early to church and played in the yard with this cute, cute, cute puppy lab. Oh, news update-Henry MIGHT be allergic to dogs. Yeah, I have a very hard time even typing that, much less admitting to it. Scary reaction to a few dogs last week. So what's a mom to do? Bring on the dogs! Well I do carry Benadryl now.

During church Henry did get a little puffy but by the time I rinsed off his hands and face he was fine. We stayed for coffee hour and dropped Billy off at work (Mother's Day-restaurant...). Henry fell asleep in the back mid-strawberry shortcake

Home for a nap. I checked on Henry two hours after he went down and he was still snoozing, so naturally, I joined him. An hour later I hear Henry, "done, done, all done" Well Happy Mother's Day to me!!
We then met Billy for dinner.

Notice the absence of anything within a 2 foot radius of Henry (we're learning)! Henry was a perfect gentleman during dinner and only let out two hair-raising, wine glass-shattering screams. Just for the heck of it.
Then we went to the waterfront. Beautiful day all the way around!
Thank you Henry and daddy. I love you!

This is actually a low allergen dog. Henry must have known because he totally absconded with it.

Billy warned the owner that there would be a scene when we tried to leave. Henry did not disappoint.
First public tantrum-check.
