Out on a School Night!

Only people in the restaurant business would have a black-tie affair on a Tuesday Night, and only a new mommy would totally forget! That is, until Billy called me at 2pm and reminded me. At which time I exclaimed, "Oh darn...". Okay, I really didn't say darn but it did get the attention of our school social worker and friend, Kristen, who said, "I'll babysit!" Done! Now, what to wear...
So, here's a snapshot of what went down last night between our little drama king and the soft-hearted Kristen.

Billy and I left at 6:30 as Henry was showing of his spiffy car outside. While sitting in DC traffic I realize that I hadn't made a bottle for Henry. Here's the lo-down via texts: (Mom, texts are when we type a message to you on your phone-the things you don't know how to answer):

6:42 ME:Didn't make bottle. Call me.

*After several more texts from me and phone calls to Kristin's cell and our home phone that went unanswered, hyperventillating, imagining Kristin and Henry lost on the side of the road, I call my friend and mom of other babysitter, Karen. After explaining the situation to Karen and feeling a little silly, but worried, she is practically out the door to our house before I even have to ask (love her). *
Back to the texts:

7:29 Kristin: Sorry! Phone was on silent...call me back

*I call Kristin. Karen is walking in the door. We all laugh, ha ha ha. Me feeling more than a little mortified but beginning to perk up as I see Billy walking across the restaurant with two glasses of champagne. *

Karen joins the text frenzy:

7:47 Karen: Henry is fine safe and sound as usual.

Kristin: Walked, bathed, danced, played. ALL GOOD!

*Karen calls*

ME TO KAREN: Too embarrassed to answer.

Karen: Seriously? That's what friends are for.

(did I mention that I love her?)

8:11Kristin: Read books, fed bottle. Snuggled. Fell fast asleep.

Me: You are the BEST. Watching flamenco!

Kristin: Have Fun!

9:09 Me: Drunk

Kristin: Jealous!

9:22 Kristin: Baby awake and restless and crying. Where is formula? Can I give him half bottle?

Kristin: Whole milk?

Kristin: Got it! Falling back asleep.

9:28 Me: Yes, give milk. (slow response---probably due to state at 9:09)

9:48 Me: okay?

10:14 Kristin: Your baby is spoiled! Haha

10:16 Me: Billy's fault, asleep?

10:17 Kristin: Ready to play

Me ?!

Kristin: fascinated with books!

Me: True, but his little butt should be in bed!

10:23 Me: Leaving in about 15

Kristin: Tried letting him cry. He was relentless. I gave in.

10:27 Me: We will be home in 20

Kristin: Henry says HI MOMMY!

*Kristin sends this lovely picture*

Me: Eyes are too bright, young man!

*Home by 11!*
