Vacation Part I

Yes, Henry started official Pre-School a few weeks ago.

More on that later as I am terribly behind on the blog posts! Silly thing called a job gets in the way of everything!

Vacation!

We joined the Haworth Clan in the Outer Banks. If you are super cool you say OBX.
The drive down was great as I didn't have to drive. Mr. Charlie drove. And, boy what a trooper. Can you say T-R-A-F-F-I-C? A 3 hour drive turned into 10 hours. Wow. I've actually managed to block it out of my memory. The best part? Henry. Unbelievable attitude the whole time thanks to books, songs, Angry Birds (yes, ugh) and WALL-E!

Henry and Carson at the rest stop.

Yay, we're here! Let's rip off our clothes! Woo-Hoo!

Henry started out with the skim board
Yes, I'm cool...
Carson taught him the ropes.

Or, he could just let Caitlin pull him. Then, by the second day, the RASH appeared. At this point he was pretty much purple. I kept an eye on him-which bothered him to no end ("I'M FINE MOM!").
Billy hadn't arrived yet and by that night, even though he said he was fine, as I watched him roll around and itch half the night, he finally said, "My neck hurts" Well can I tell you that's about all it took. It was 2am and I whipped him up and drove him to the OBX ER (now I feel super cool). Anyway, It was not far and the waiting room was empty so Henry got as much attention as he could get. So by the time we left (around 4am) Mr. Popularity didn't want to leave. At the hospital they were concerned enough to give him a steroid injection right away. Weird, I felt it was my motherly duty to question what was going into my child's body. So when I did, the Dr. humored me and started to explain the pros and cons and statistics and blah, blah, blah at which time I said, "whatever, just give it to him.". Yeah, they saw me coming a mile away. I'm sure they all got a laugh too because after they wrote the prescription for steroid syrup, the Dr. told me that I needed to give it to him first thing in the morning because he will be wired. To which I replied, "It's 3am, and you INJECTED IT INTO HIS VEINS! What does that mean". To which she replied, "He he he". Long story short, back at the house, at about 5:30, I said to manic Henry, "Do NOT leave this bed, do NOT leave this room, do NOT touch anything. Here are some crayons, here are some books and here is some milk. Goodnight.". I have absolutely no idea if he slept.

The room was intact and he was in his pack n play (don't think he started out there...oh well.

So, the next day we did non-beach activities. And because I was convinced that a dog had been in the house before us, I wanted to stay out of the house. So here we are hiking at the nature trail in the OBX. Who knew? After a pretty intense conversation with the ranger about tadpoles and whether they wore capes, we decided to hit the links.

A winner. There was a pirate ship on this putt putt course!

After a day of "laying low" it was back to the waves.

So let me just explain exactly what, "laying low" with a kid on steroids means. It means NOTHING. There is no laying low. There is no sleep, there is no stopping, there is no food, there is pee. A lot of pee! I have never actually smoked crack, nor have I witnessed anyone smoking or who has smoked crack, but I think I may have some idea. Crazy crazy days. At one point this child, who thrives on his 3-3.5 hour naps was doing jumping jacks, yes JUMPING JACKS in the bed!!! I kid you not. Over the monitor we heard heavy panting. I thought he was having a bad dream (kind of like my Great Dane used to have). Nope. I walk in there and it's like Richard Simmons ON CRACK!

Sooo, no naps. Which makes him an ornery Richard Simmons. Fun times.
yep

Anyhoo, there's always Karen!!!! And fruity beverages!!!
Billy arrived a few days later and Henry seemed to calm (naturally).

Out to the beach for Bocce Ball.

Ahhh, silly

How could this child (on the right) ever make me see red?

Billy had to take his boy crabbing.

Carson got one!

What a great time. We'll be back!

Next stop, Winston Salem, NC!
